Good Night, Sydney

Give me just one more day in Sydney
To climb Observatory Hill and watch sunset touch the shore.
To see the Opera House gleaming in coastal light,
And pull funny faces at Luna Park’s smile so bright.
To lie on Bondi’s golden sands and hear the ocean sigh,
And follow the Coogee trail where endless waters lie.
To hide in your university, lost in a quiet dream,
To sit on Botanic Garden where distant waters gleam,
Or crunch on chips in Hyde Park beneath the shaded green.
To walk the Art Gallery halls till every piece is seen,
And sip that fruit tea in Chinatown, so sweet yet so sincere,
To ride the tram from Circular Quay as evening draws near,
To linger at Lavender Bay while twilight turns to blue,
Listening to ship horns sing as the Harbour Bridge glides into view,
And take that sunset kayak ride I failed to pursue
We always think time so long so long
But she will flow, will flow
Until we wake to say so long so long
Whatever will be, will be...
We whisper that tomorrow waits, pretending not to grieve,
Never knowing when again our tapestry we'll weave.
Just give me one more day in Sydney
Only one more day for me.
